A Companion of Jesus

Live loved = don’t fear

The media is full of it. The government wraps us in it. Friends are concerned about it. The Church has been too often found revelling in it.

In what?
In Fear!

We are so brainwashed today with troubles present or those prophesised to come!
It is the pandemic of flu waiting to sweep us away.
It is global warming and the consequences of our misuse of the environment.
It is the economic recession.
It is the additive in the food system.
It is the Middle East crisis.
It is the nuclear build up in some foreign land.
It is religious fundamentalism.
It is MRSA.
It is the increase of violence.
It is the breakdown in society.
It is too much sugar, coffee or fat.
It is the paedophile down the road.
It is anything that makes people live in worry and weighs them down in dread. It is the cause of depression and of hatred.

In church circles, the burden of not having done the right thing or not having done enough, weighs the child of God down in the mire of fear. Fear is crippling, manipulative and controlling. Those who want to lord it over others have used it for centuries.

Jesus does not weigh us down with fear, but sets us free from it. The picture of a demanding, angry god is replaced with the Abba of Jesus. To have seen me is to have seen the father, Jesus told the disciples. He was and is a liberator who frees us from the tyranny of fear. “Fear not”, he says over and over again!

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”. (John 16. 33)

Love casts out fear…so

Live loved..and fear will have no home in you!
